On 11th December 2002 Allan Menzies, from a
small town in Scotland, attacked and killed
his best friend Thomas McKendrick, drank
some of his blood, then hid his body in a
dustbin before burying it in a shallow grave.
Nearly six weeks later, the police found
the body and Menzies was arrested. But why
had he killed his friend?
Before the murder, Menzies had become
obsessed by Queen of The Damned Ă» a vampire
movie which he watched over 100 times. At
the trial, he pleaded insanity, claiming the
lead character had told him he would become
an immortal vampire if he carried out the
murder. The jury rejected his plea and he
was sentenced to life in prison where he
later hanged himself.
Combining testimony from McKendrick and
MenziesÆ families and friends, with dramatic
reconstruction, The Real Vampire Chronicles
is a true horror story of how a friendship
between two boys and an obsession with a
vampire movie ended up with both boys dead
and their families devastated.
