Unreported World (2007), Complete - 11 Episodes

11 - India

Reporter Ramita Navai and producer Siobhan Sinnerton expose the horrific plight of over 170 million Indian citizens - the Dalits - who are at the bottom of the Asian country's social hierachy. Despite India's booming economy and soaring stock exchange, financial growth has done little to improve the Dalits' lot. As one of the most oppressed group of people on Earth, the Dalits face segregation similar to that in apartheid South Africa and 1950s America.

10 - Mongolia

http://i3.tinypic.com/6qa48sm.jpg

Documentary examining the political and humantarian situation in Mongolia, a country in the grip of a modern gold rush but hampered by a lack of social structure. Until 1990, Mongolia was under virtual military occupation by the Soviet Union and the vaccuum created by the fall of communism has left the country battling for survival.

9 - Israel's Wild West

http://i16.tinypic.com/6z4f5dv.jpg

Documentary examining the escalating tensions on the West Bank, where ideologically driven Israeli settlers are reclaiming land that the government expelled them from two years ago. As the settlers expand into new areas, the potential for conflict grows by the day.

8 - East Timor

http://i3.tinypic.com/8g6wbp1.jpg

Documentary which examines the break down in law and order in East Timor, one of the world's youngest democracies, since its bloody separation from Indonesia in 1999. Elements of the rebel groups that fought the Indonesian Army for more than 20 years are threatening to restart their armed resistance and the fledgling country is ravaged by widespread crime and gang violence.

7 - Kosovo

http://i6.tinypic.com/8g6g8s2.jpg

Documentary which examines the UN's plan to make Kosovo Europe's newest state, independent from Serbia. But only eight years after the bloody civil conflicts between its Serb and Albanian populations, are the two communities willing to forgive the past and co-exist peacefully.

6 - Zimbabwe

As Zimbabwe spirals ever deeper into repression and starvation, an Unreported World team just back from three weeks travelling undercover through the country reveals startling claims that the Mugabe Government is using the supply of AIDS drugs and food aid to gerrymander upcoming elections.

5/10 - Chongqing: Invisible City

http://i17.tinypic.com/6l48k7t.jpg

Documentary which visits one of China's most rapidly expanding cities and finds an economic boom built on the back of mistreated migrant labourers and farmers who have been evicted from their lands. In the past seven years, the Chinese government has spent a staggering 114 billion pounds on turning Chongqing, formerly known as Chungking in the west, into a manufacturing hub. But the workers who are building this new metropolis face cramped conditions and no employment rights at all.

4 - Bolivia : Anarchy In The Andes

Documentary series on topical global issues. President Evo Morales promised land reform to help Bolivia's indigenous peoples, but the move has led to conflict with the land barons.

3- Ivory Coast: Blood and Chocolate

Evan Williams and James Brabazon report from the Ivory Coast where a UN-sponsored ceasefire between warring factions in the north and south of the country is in danger of being broken as both sides rearm and retrain. Fuelling the conflict, which has so far claimed the lives of 2,000 people, is the desire for land devoted to cocoa, a commodity that helps fuel the British love of chocolate.

2 - West Papua: Rainforest Warriors

This edition of Unreported World focuses on West Papua, located to the north of Australia and currently a province of Indonesia. West Papua is home to the world’s biggest copper and gold mine at Freeport.

Reporter Evan Williams and director Siobhan Sinnerton spent three weeks undercover in West Papua - undercover because journalists are forbidden to work in West Papua and are usually arrested by the Indonesian military on arrival. Hence the bloody conflict between government forces and locals is rarely glimpsed by the outside world.

Getting into West Papua is extremely difficult. Obtaining official journalist accreditation is virtually impossible so the team have to film clandestinely.

1 - China's African Takeover

Unreported World comes from Central Africa, where our demand for Chinese-made goods such as mobile phones, MP3 players and laptops comes at a terrible human cost.
