It was a tall order in anyoneĆs bookůto produce a one-hour TV
documentary and fifteen short "TV vignettes" about the progress
that the world has made towards sustainable development over the
last two decades, in under three months. But that was the proposal
which World Bank Creative Industries Consultant Chris Haws and
External Affairs Video Unit boss Francis Dobbs were putting to
seasoned British TV Producer Andre Singer over his pommes frites
at the Cannes television market in April of this year. They
explained that the ideal transmission dates for such a program
would be during the World Summit on Sustainable Development to be
held in Johannesburg in August. Singer gazed thoughtfully across
the glittering Mediterranean. "YouĆre both mad," he observed.
