Sacred Music (2008) BBC4 - The Open University - Four-part documentary series and a special concert
Precizare: Cu rezerva că noi ortodocşii suntem obişnuiţi cu alt gen de muzică bisericească, am găsit (cu anumite eforturi) nişte documentare care prezintă muzica sacră creştină occidentală, nu doar teoretic, ci şi practic, cu interpretarea unui cor ce a câştigat numeroase premii „The Sixteen”, sub bagheta dirijorului şi fondatorului său, Harry Christophers. Am tradus, sper mulţumitor – căci nu cunosc prea bine terminologia muzicală specifică, iar dacă detaliile tehnice ale episoadelor diferă, se datorează faptului că au fost înregistrate de diverse persoane şi puse pe net, fiecare adunând ce a putut (rareori toate la un loc), adesea concertul special, *An Easter Celebration* fiind confundat cu partea a treia *Tallis, Byrd and the Tudors*. Abia pe site-ul official BBC4, am găsit ceva detalii mai clare, drept pentru care am pus şi link-urile respective.
Sper să fie utile pentru cultura noastră generală, şi nu numai, corurile bune pe mai multe voci, sunt superbe.

În aceste documentare, fostul actor şi cântăreţ de cor, Simon Russell Beale ne oferă şi ne prezintă totodată, evoluţia şi înflorirea Muzicii sacre occidentale.
Descriere: Cu toate că acest subiect poate suna destul de arid, nu poate fi cazul acestui prim subiect de deschidere *The Gothic Revolution*. Russell Beale arată cum a evoluat muzica sacră, de la cântul bisericesc simplu, fără acompaniament, cu o singură şi unică melodie, la magistrala polifonie: sunetul a mai multe voci cântând note diferite, chiar melodii independente, însă perfect şi armonic îmbinate. Avem ocazia să ascultăm pentru început primele armonii - cel puţin, acelea specifice muzicii Occidentale - adesea chiar în prima formă a compoziţiilor iniţiale, de unde au fost ulterior preluate şi, prin practică şi teorie, aduse la viaţă. Această muzică se construieşte practic, cruţând la început simţurile, până la a-şi amplifica mult volumul, atunci când coriştii vor ajunge la contopirea celor patru voci într-un tot armonic, scăldat în lumina vitraliilor de la ferestre.
