This incredible documentary tells the story behind the oldest surviving document of Western civilisation.
The Papyrus of Ani, which is thought to date back to 1800BC, is the largest and most beautiful of all the Egyptian funery scrolls. Known widely as the "Book of the Dead", it is an astounding collection of the writings that were placed in tombs as a means of guiding the ancient Egyptian soul on its journey to the afterlife.
The text, which was written by Egyptian Priests, outlines the progress of a soul into the afterlife, beginning with mummification, and culminating in the beautiful and terrifying ritual of "The Weighing of the Heart". It also contains spells and rituals to help the mummified corpse on its perilous voyage.
We follow the story of this tremendous document from its creation near the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes; to its re-discovery, and theft, in 1887. We look at the Indiana Jones-esque episode in which a nineteenth century British archaeologist was forced to steal the document in order to save it from destruction. When E.A. Wallis-Budge discovered the artefact in a recently unearthed tomb in Cairo's Valley of the Kings, the Egyptian Government refused to allow such a treasure to leave the country. Wallis-Budge was forced into a complex series of subterfuges in order to smuggle the scroll back to the British Museum, where he began the painstaking task of translating it.
Our exploration of this tome also prompts a comprehensive investigation into the vast and mysterious world of Egyptian religion and mythology, in which we attempt to decipher over 4,000 hieroglyphics using cutting-edge CGI graphics. We also outline how the translation and resurrection of this ancient text shaped the modern world, including Christian religion, in ways that few people realise. Indeed, biblical scholars agree that portions of the Old Testament are direct descendants of the Egyptian text; some archaeologists argue that Moses carried a copy of "The Book of the Dead" with him when he fled Egypt. Our timeless tale, which spans the age of Papyrus to the era of the Podcast, reveals an influential and powerful work of spiritual literature.

Papirusul "Ani", despre care se crede că datează din perioada 1800 îCh, este cel mai mare şi cel mai frumos dintre toate pergamentele funerare egiptene (găsite). Cunoscut în general drept "Cartea Morţilor", face parte dintr-o colecţie extraordinară de scrieri egiptene antice, care erau puse în morminte (alături de alte obiecte rituale), pentru a îndruma sufletul în călătoria sa din viaţa de apoi.
Textul, care a fost scris de preoţii egipteni, descrie evoluţia unui suflet în viaţa de dincolo, începând odată cu mumificarea, şi culminând cu frumosul, dar şi terifiantul ritual de "Cântărire a Inimii". Acesta conţine de asemenea, încantaţii şi ritualuri pentru protecţia corpului mumificat în timpul călătoriei periculoase a sufletului. (np: din textul în engleză reiese că şi "cadavrul" ar "călători" – o încercare de a explica, s-ar lungi cât "un papirus", aşa că am preferat adaptarea, atât aici cât şi în rest)
Vom urmări povestea acestui teribil document de la conceperea sa, cea mai probabilă în oraşul antic egiptean Theba, (în al cărui vechi site s-au găsit probabil, dovezi), şi până la re-descoperirea şi furtul său, din 1887.
Vom privi apoi episodul demn de Indiana Jones, în care în secolul al XIX-lea, un arheolog britanic a fost "nevoit" să fure documentul pentru a-l salva de la distrugere. Când E.A. Wallis-Budge a descoperit artefactul într-un mormânt recent deschis, din Valea Regilor, guvernul egiptean a refuzat să permită unei astfel de comori, să părăsească ţara. Wallis-Budge a fost "forţat" la o serie complexă de şiretlicuri, pentru a-l aduce prin contrabandă la British Museum, unde a şi început de altfel, dificila sarcină de a-l traduce.
Explorarea acestei scrieri, necesită de asemenea, o anchetă cuprinzătoare a lumii vaste şi misterioase a religiei şi mitologiei egiptene, în care se va încerca descifrarea a peste 4.000 de hieroglife folosind grafice CGI, de ultimă oră. Vom evidenţia de altfel, felul în care traducerea şi învierea (reconstituirea) acest străvechi text, se calcheză peste lumea modernă, inclusiv cea a religiei creştine, la un mod pe care puţini oameni pot să-l realizeze. Într-adevăr, specialiştii în studiul Bibliei, sunt de acord că unele porţiuni din Vechiul Testament îşi au sorgintea în unele texte egiptene; unii arheologi susţin chiar că Moise a luat cu sine o copie a " Cărţii Morţilor ", când a fugit în Egipt.

Menţiune: Această versiune, deşi mare ca volum, este superbă ca rezoluţie şi sunet, un adevărat HDTV, însă a existat o discuţie pivitoare la integritatea link-urilor şi a arhivelor, ceea ce a dus la o a doua postare, a unei alte versiuni, a unui grup din Cairo (mai mult despre aceasta, mai jos). La verificare, link-urile erau perfect funcţionale, nu am avut nici cea mai mică problemă.

Menţiune: Această versiune, deşi "clasică" (700 Mb), deşi bunică la capitolul imagine, lasă serios de dorit la partea de sunet. (Probabil era făcută pentru a fi uşor de dublat în altă limbă.)
Din categoria NU E BANC, DAR DEVINE: La dezarhivare, am descoperit că această versiune, avea şi un sample, pe care uploader-ii bineînţeles, l-au împachetat cu restul arhivelor (să fie totul acolo, nu?!). 
La verificare, link-urile erau interschimbabile şi perfect funcţionale, nu am avut nici cea mai mică problemă.
Am postat sample-ul separat, deşi (după mintea lor) l-aţi fi putut găsi la sfârşit, odată cu restul, nu?!
