The Gummi Bears was a Disney TV series that ran from 1985-1990. Based on both the candy and an original concept by Disney's own Michael Eisner, it was one of the cartoons in the original Disney Afternoon lineup.
Set in England in the Middle Ages, the action follows a young page, Calvin, who meets the Gummi Bears, a group of motley colored bears who live in the forest. The Gummi Bears live in relative secrecy from the rest of the world because their number has dwindled to six, so the gang is on the search for their relatives, The Great Gummis, who disappeared from the land swearing to return. The Gummis are also the makers of Gummi Berry Juice, which gives them the power to bounce and gives humans super strength. The juice is coveted by many villains, particularly Duke Ighthorn.
The series went through quite a few changes during its run, including adding a new Gummi, Gusto, into the works and making an ally of another human, Princess Calla (who before was unaware of their existence) and by the end including a new race of Gummis known as the Barbics. Through it all, it remained the same series loaded with interesting characters and plenty of action.
